In a lonely island, Morelius, a dwarf alchemist, has built a complex of tunnels over the years to carry out forbidden experiments. His altered dwarf minions kidnap fishermen, in order to modify their bodies and minds, turning them into monstrous hybrids.

A gang of smugglers has set up a hideout in what looked like a deserted cave on the island, but it turns out that one of Moreus's tunnels connects to it.

That’s where the adventurers come into the picture: they have been recruited by this gang. They return with some goods, obtained at a bargain price from the thieves’ guild, only to find their lair deserted. No sign of their mates, except a blood trail leading to a half-hidden door in the back of the cave.
...

The Lair of the Alchemist is a dungeon crawl inspired by The Island of Dr. Moreau, from H.G.Wells. Compatible with Cairn and DURF.

  • Short adventure for a one-shot games
  • 8 pages zine with a detailed map
  • Optional handouts for players: a pdf with individual rooms to be able to discover the map little by little, a general map without hidden passages, NPC portraits.

Originally I started doodling a map, then little by little the rest of the elements populated this adventure. I decided to make it DURF compatible, and participate in DURF JAM 2023 as my firt TTRPG project.
As a second iteration, I made a version for Cairn, another great system for fantasy. Along with this addition I made a general revamp of the art, and participated in ttRPG JAMuary.

Ran this last night with my table and we had a blast! They loved the assorted cast of mutated goons and the twisty layout of the dungeon. The layout was clear and easy to use as the GM. Awesome work!

Great work! Excellent take on classical tale of Dr. Moreau. I especially enjoyed the map design which allows to print it, cut out and serve to players room by room, piece by piece.

Thanks for your kind words!

absolutely beautiful, well done! 🙌🏼🖤

will there be a physical version in the future?

Hey, thanks!

In the short term I am focused on creating other adventures, but in the future, why not?! Sure, a physical version, together with the player handouts may be interesting.

do it! i'll support it. love DURF and love Cairn.

Woe betide those who sneak into the secret underwater lair of the sinister Dr. Morelius!

I printed out the illustrations so my players could see just how monstrous this guy is. Lots of flavor in such a low-prep package—a GM's dream! I'll definitely run this one again. 10/10.

Thank you for your kind comments! I'm glad you like it :-)

Great layout and wonderful art ... I've only had a quick look ... I don't want to be spoiled in case I find someone to DM it :D

Te planteas traducirlo al español ? Si necesitas playtesters, cuenta conmigo :D :D :D

Thanks for the comments. For now I have no plans to translate it. I'm gonna polish this one, and make a version for Cairn system.

Maybe I need playtesters, I'll let you know if that happens! thanks

Have you considered releasing this in spreads format to make the map more legible?
